3rd grade artists are focusing on nature for our first unit. Students created a nature book and practiced drawing different objects and animals from nature. Our current project is a clay loom that was created using the semi-circle shape. Students drew ideas of things from nature based on a semi-circle. Then, students chose an idea to create with clay. The clay looms have notches so that we can do a weaving with yarn after we paint it. This has been a really fun new project for the 3rd grade artists!

4th graders are learning how beliefs and values can be expressed through art. Students were able to look at Islamic religious art and see that it does not show people or objects; Islamic religious art is created using geometric or floral designs and patterns. Students drew a design that showed repetition with these patterns and shapes. Then students used neon oil pastels to trace over their lines. The last thing was adding watercolor paint to fill the space with color. These creative pieces will glow in the dark with a black light! Students are very excited about that!
5th graders are continuing with shapes to make creative designs. This time, students cut and flipped the shapes to create balance. They were working at cutting a variety of different shapes as well as complex and simple shapes. Students are gaining skill with using exacto knives to cut paper.
