The 2nd grade artists just finished creating their own musical instrument. We have been learning how music can inspire us to be creative. Students looked at different instruments online and in-person, drew ideas for their own musical instrument, then created, decorated, and painted the musical instrument. Here are the final instruments!

5th graders created their own stitched design inspired by the book, The Dot. We also painted and splattered paint on the cardboard like artists do in action painting. Students looked at the artist Jackson Pollock for inspiration for the action painting. We practiced different ways to make radiating lines, rotating squares, and spectrum lines. Students could use one of these designs in their final artwork, or they could create their own design. 4th grade students were inspired by the artist Claire West to create the colorful landscape paintings. We used some new materials (chalk and liquid starch) to make the sky and ground. Then students painted grass, trees, clouds, flowers, and other nature items in the painting. Students also learned about the 3 parts of the landscape: the foreground, middle ground, and background. In 3rd grade art we were inspired by artists who use recycled and junk materials to make art. The video we watched is below. Students worked with wire and hot glue to assemble their sculpture. Each student chose one main color and the sculpture was finished in spray paint. In 2nd grade art, students learned about the artist Henri Matisse. We borrowed his idea of using one main color in a room. Students drew one of their favorite rooms. Then they selected one main color and added color with oil pastels. 1st grade artists learned about the artist Gustav Klimt and his use of repetition and pattern in his work. Students practiced with patterns and then created an artwork with an animal or person sleeping in their bed. They filled the blankets with many different patterns and colors. In Kindergarten art, we learned how to use a paintbrush to create a cool colored, swirly sky. We created the snowman with basic shapes and then added some other fun materials to it. |
