st graders worked on a story to go with the characters they created. We talked about having the story show action (what is going on) and a setting (where the story takes place).

nd graders listened to Jazz music today while finishing their paper collage. They started with many big shapes and overlapped many smaller shapes similar to how Stuart Davis painted & overlapped shapes in his artwork.
rd graders finished creating their Junk Art this week. They used all kinds of recycled materials they brought in from home. I will be spray painting the sculptures with the one color that they chose so they can be ready for the Elementary Extravaganza in March! They will be painting their clay sculptures this next week. They were fired one time in the kiln already.
th graders looked at and created a small example of an Asian landscape last week. They looked at a Chinese ink painting set and learned how they use different values of ink to create the different parts of the landscape. The foreground is darker and has more detail, while the background is lighter and has less detail. Here are some examples of what we are doing with Asian landscapes.
th graders are making a form of abstract art called Op Art. It uses pattern & repetition, math & geometry, and contrasting colors. Here are some of the works so far.
