5th graders each created a simple color field artwork using oil pastels and chalk pastels. One is soft edge and one is hard edge. Can you tell the difference? We just started another abstract art project using cardboard and paint. Students painted with thick paint and scratched out a design. Then they splattered paint using a toothbrush! It was lots of fun. We will be creating a stitched dot design on this painting.

4th graders finished cutting and adding tissue paper to the holes in their paper cut lantern. Here are some of the finished lanterns! We will be trying them with candles and our jars this week.
In 3rd grade art, we are looking at different ways we can express ourselves. We learned about warm and cool colors and added some salt and clear wrap to our watercolor backgrounds. We also learned how to use an Xacto knife to cut shapes in paper. Students created symmetrical face expressions by folding the paper and cutting out shapes for the eyes, nose and mouth.
In 2nd grade art, we are discovering how we can use color to express our emotions. Students painted a paper plate using fun and bright colors and concentric circles. We looked at some artwork by Wassily Kandinsky for the circle inspiration. After the circles, students painted fun patterns and designs on top of the circles. Students are warping the paper plate loom and will start weaving next art class.
We are connecting art with telling stories for this project. Students each drew a variety of different characters. Then they chose 2 of their favorite to draw big and add googly eyes. Students are now working on creating comic stories for their characters.
Kindergartners painted their textured butterflies using fun colors. We added some soft antenna and a hanger. Enjoy!!
