The 5th graders earned their second special art day and had a blast creating art with food. They used crackers, pretzels, spinach and peanut butter to make their creations. Students made faces, animals and buildings or towers.

In Kindergarten art, we are learning how our families are unique and different. Students looked at a Russian doll last week and saw how each piece is inside another piece. It reminded them of a family. Students will be creating a different drawing and size of paper for each member of their family. Each family member opens up to another family member inside like the Russian doll.
The 1st graders just finished painting their rainsticks. Students painted different desert symbols on the rainstick. In many dry places, groups of people have different ceremonies, songs, dances and stories of how to call the rain or make the rain come. Students put rice and cut up strips of paper in their Pringles can to make the sound of rain.
In 2nd grade art we are learning different ways of printing. We are also learning about colors and the color wheel. While looking at Piet Mondrain's later abstract artwork, students saw that he uses black and white with the primary colors: red, yellow and blue. Students each made monotype prints (one of a kind) by painting on a clear plastic sheet and then laying their paper on it and rubbing the back. The painted colors were printed (copied) onto their paper.
The fourth graders have been looking at and learning about landscapes. Students discovered that a landscape has lots of land, nature and can have some buildings or people. We discovered the 3 grounds in a landscape: foreground, middle ground and background. Students just finished their watercolor landscape painting from looking at a landscape photo.
In 5th grade art class, we started looking at a Malaysian artist named Cheeming Boey. He draws really intricate designs on white cups using sharpies. We started some practice making creative lines and patterns using sharpies. After doing some practice with sharpies and lines and patterns, students looked at the artist, Guiseppe Arcimboldo. He was an artist from the 1500's who created amazing and strange portraits using fruit, vegetables, animals and other ordinary objects. We combined something from each of these artists to make our own extraordinary animal drawings. Each student chose an animal to draw and fill with sharpie designs. |
