One 5th grade class had their special art day. We are learning about the artist Guisseppe Arcimboldo and how he uses ordinary things such as fruits and vegetables to make portraits of people. Students made their own art with food today!

4th graders are working with clay to create a Greek pot. They started by building a pinch pot with a ball of clay. After that, they added coils to make the pot taller and wider. This week we will finish adding coils and add handles. Once the pottery dries completely, I will fire them in the kiln and then they will draw Greek geometric patterns around the pot using black sharpies.
3rd graders are learning how a group of people can show their culture in their artwork. We looked at Mexican art and how they use bright colors and certain images and symbols to represent Mexican culture. Students created a metal-tooling based on their drawing with Mexican symbols. Then, they colored some of the metal with colored sharpies.
The 2nd graders just finished a unit focusing on how music can inspire us to be creative. They each made their own musical instrument. We painted and added colored paper faces to the rattles.
1st graders have been looking at different insects and minibeasts. They learned that insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts. They each created a chalk drawing of an insect or minibeast of their choice. Enjoy!!
4th graders are learning about Ancient Greece. We will be making a Greek pot and using the geometric design on the outside. We looked at some videos of Greek pottery and learned about Ancient Greece throughout their history. Here is a great website we looked at.
Here are 2 examples of Greek pottery: geometric & story-telling. In 1st grade, we have been connecting art with different parts of our lives. We looked at how some groups of people make rainsticks to use in dances or ceremonies to call on the rain. Each student created their own rainstick that makes the sound of the rain. We are connecting art with music (sounds). Students painted different desert symbols on their rainstick today. They will be on display this week at the Extravaganza.
2nd graders have been learning how music inspires us to be creative. We created artwork inspired by different music, and now, we are creating musical instruments. We looked at some musical instruments from Mongolia and saw how they use natural materials to make their instruments. We aren't able to use natural materials to make ours, but we are using bowls, wood, rice, tape, paint & paper. Here are the rattles with some color!
The 5th graders just finished their unit on abstract art. One of the projects we did used oil & chalk pastel to make hard edge and soft edge color field artwork.
