5th graders are learning about abstract art and how it shows little or no real people, places or things. We painted a piece of cardboard with thick paint, texture and splattered paint on it. After that, students practiced with different ways of making a circle design: radiating lines, spectrum and rotating squares. Students poked holes in the cardboard and then stitched their design with colorful yarn.

4th graders built their own clay symbol that represents who they are and what they believe. Students looked at different types of money to see that symbols are used to represent the country. Also, coins have raised parts that are a relief. After building the clay base from a slab, students added clay or carved to make it a relief sculpture. We finished with the paint colors before break!
3rd graders have been working with different ways to express something. We created facial expressions with cut paper and then looked at how we can use expressive color in a drawing. Students colored on sandpaper and then printed the expressive drawing on paper.
2nd graders are learning how different cultures use symbols in their artwork. We learned how the Egyptians used hieroglyphics to share messages and meaning. Students are working in groups to create their own life-size mummy case.
1st graders are learning how art connects with different things. We are connecting art with science by learning how to draw and create insects and minibeasts. 1st graders used clay to build a minibeast and then painted it to look realistic.
The Kinder artists have been working with different materials to create puppets. Students started with a popsicle stick and paper plate. Now we are working with paper bags to make creative puppets.
