5th graders are starting a unit creating art with shapes, balance and contrast. They are seeing how they can be creative with their designs as well. To create this art, students folded a colored paper and drew a line from the top to the bottom. Then they cut it out to create a symmetrical design. The goal was to see if you could see something in both colors (positive and negative parts of the paper). What do you see?

4th graders are focusing on things that are important to them for this unit. We are learning that there are different beliefs and values in the world. Students will be creating art based on some of the different world religions, and they will create are that reflects their own beliefs and values.
3rd grade artists have been learning how nature is all around us and affects us. Nature includes all things that make up the physical world, plants, animals, etc. We looked at the photographer, Peter Lik, and how he travels everywhere to get the best nature shot. Students created a nature book to keep their drawings of nature things.
2nd grade artists are learning how they can make something strange, silly and different. We looked at Pablo Picasso and how he started drawing realistically, then made everything broken up (Cubist) or moved the parts of the face to different places. He made quite a stir in the art world. Students are making their Picasso inspired faces using clay.
In 1st grade art, we read the book, The Dot, and learned that we all can be artists. Students painted their own dots using watercolor paint. It was an awesome 1st day of 1st grade art! We also are learning about shapes and how we can use shapes to create art. Students created shapes using pop bottle lids and stamping them on paper. This was also a really fun day!
In Kinder art, students practiced different ways of changing strips of paper. Students worked in table groups to make their own paper playground or amusement park. This unit focuses on how we can change paper to make something fun, new and creative.
