The 3rd grade artists learned about the Kuna Indian people who live near the country of Panama in Central America. Students looked at their colorful cloth mola designs. Most designs had images of nature or animals using layers of colored cloth. Students cut colored felt to make their own mola design. Not all students had time to finish with all the layers of color, but here are a few examples.

In 2nd grade art, we are finishing the year with projects inspired by music. We looked at the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his paintings. He created many abstract, colorful paintings that were inspired by classical music. He had a special gift where he could see sounds and hear colors. Students listened to classical music and painted the colors they heard. They are also making a musical instrument using plastic bowls, wood dowels, rice, beans, tape and paint! For our last project in 4th grade art, we looked at the country of India and a festival they hold to celebrate the elephant. Students learned how to create the body with pinch pots. They also used coils and spheres to make the eyes and trunk. We rolled a thicker coil for the legs. Each student could add whatever detail and special features they wanted to make their elephant unique. Kindergarten artists used their imaginations to create 3D clay creatures. We will have fun painting them the last day of art!
2nd graders really enjoyed printing with ink and foam. Students drew a design on the foam and we printed using opposite colors on the color wheel- complementary colors. Which color pairs do you see together?
1st grade artists have enjoyed learning about Australian art and making dot paintings. We learned that Australian art using special symbols that can communicate messages. They also believed in the value of nature and life. The symbol of the hand represented belonging. Students created 2 special artworks using the Australian desert symbols and their own hand. We had a blast using Q-tips to make the beautiful dots. Here are a few examples of the Australian hand dot paintings.
5th grade artists chose from different artworks by famous artists to paint for their ceiling tile. The 2 artists that were most popular were Andy Warhol and Romero Britto. Both artists use the Pop Art style in their artwork, often showing popular or ordinary things. Kindergarten artists have been using their imaginations to create art that is not real. We drew and colored creative lines and shapes to make abstract cats first. Then, we looked at the book, Not a Box. Students chose a paper with a small cardboard box glued to it and imagined whatever they wanted the box to become. |
