For the final project, students chose a theme and created 6 pages showing 6 different lessons from the semester. Can you see the themes and creative ways the students illustrated each lesson!

Painting I students finished the semester with a painting using the negative or positive space. We looked at art at the link #kolboalphabetchallenge. Students then chose a letter and theme to go with that letter. They practiced drawing the letter in different ways and then filled the negative or positive space with the letter theme. Painting II students found an iconic painting to use in a parody painting. We looked through many different famous paintings and students chose art from Vincent Van Gogh, Grant Wood and Hokusai. Do you recognize these iconic paintings? What did the students do to change it in a fun or humorous way? Can you tell we did these right before Christmas break! HS drawing students worked on drawing portraits using correct proportion. We drew some basic faces and then each student chose an inspiring person as their final portrait drawing. Can you guess who these faces belong to? Drawing students each chose their own subject matter to make into a scratch art drawing. Students could choose to do the artwork realistically or filling it with patterns and designs. Students were challenged to imitate the style of Chuck Close in this artwork. He creates large paintings of faces using small areas of concentric circles. Each student chose their own subject matter and used his style to create their painting. This work took a lot of time, which tested the student's perseverance and patience. In art foundations we have been working with the element SPACE. Students watched this short video to see 6 ways we can use space to create the illusion of depth. Students each chose two objects or animals for their artwork. They placed one lower on the frame and one further back. The object that was closer to us and lower is drawn bigger, and the object that is supposed to be bigger is further back so it is drawn smaller. In Painting I, students thought about and chose an inspiring place for their painting. We learned about the artwork from Friedrich Hundertwasser. He uses bright, spectral colors and lots of repetition in his paintings. Here are the student paintings in two stages. We painted the main color shapes first and then painted the detail and pattern on top. It was great to see all the student artwork from this semester! Thanks for stopping to check it out and for braving the snowy weather. If you didn't get a chance to see them, here are all the student displays. In Art Foundations, students were learning about the art element value. We practiced creating value with watercolor paint and we also practiced using watercolor paint in different ways. Students read about and looked at art images from Georgia O'Keefe. Each student practiced drawing different flowers and then chose a flower to create a close-up drawing and painting. Students learned how to crop and enlarge a drawing using a grid. Then each student used the watercolor techniques we practiced to paint the flower. |
