Students in independent study art finished creating some interesting projects. They each came up with goals and ideas for their own creative work.

We visited the local flower shop to get some great photos of fresh flowers. We are looking at Georgia O'Keefe's large flower paintings as inspiration for this project. Students are cropping & enlarging the flower and will paint it with watercolor paint. This unit is focusing on nature and the art element value. Value describes the lightness or darkness of a surface.
Each student focused on a human right for their wire sculpture. Some of the human rights students chose are: the right to own property, the right to marriage and family, the right to freedom of thought and opinion, the right to freedom of slavery, the right to not work long hours and get time off and the right to freedom from arbitrary arrest and exile. Students worked at showing something important about their human right in their final sculpture. It was challenging joining the wire and figuring how to work with this new material. Students had to be open to changing their design to make it work. In Computer Graphics, we looked at the artist Romero Britto and how he re-designed the Ultra logo for a special event. Students chose a logo that they wanted to remake for this project. They sketched some ideas and created the new logo in Gimp. Here are the new logos with the existing logos. Which do you like better? How did they make them different? We are working with the art element FORM in art foundations. Form is something that is 3D, can be viewed from many angles, has volume and takes up space. We looked at monsters for inspiration and created clay monsters. Students joined 2 pinch pots to make the main body or head of the monster. Then they attached other details and parts for the face and body. These monsters are finished and need to dry so they can be fired in the kiln. Then we will glaze them with fun colors.
Students finished creating and glazing their lanterns. We tried each with a candle to see how the light would look with their cut designs. Students designed a personal logo that represents who they are. Each student chose an initial and colors and images that would represent themselves. We looked at illuminated manuscripts first and how artists would use images and decoration to help the reader see and understand the meaning of the text. |
