One high school student is taking the Drawing 2 class. The first unit was focused on drawing objects to make them look realistic. The creative part was placing those objects in a fantasy/surrealist way in a picture. One of the challenges with this project was using 2 new materials: India ink and oil pastel. What is fantastical or surreal about this drawing?

Drawing I artists started the semester working on drawing objects to make them look real. We drew blind contour and contour line drawings of many objects. In this first artwork, students chose a theme for the objects or chose objects that were meaningful to them. Then students designed the background in a creative way. One artist is taking Painting 3 this semester. His first painting was inspired by the artists Rob Gonsalves and Tang Yau Hoong. Each of these artists shows transformation in their work. The high school artist created his own transformation painting inspired by these 2 artists. Can you see what is transforming?
HS painting students were inspired by the pop art style of painting, which uses popular and consumer things as the subject matter. Each student drew, cropped and enlarged a drawing of a candy piece and then painted it using realistic colors and bold outlines. Do you see your favorite candy here? The high school painting class students recently designed and painted unique color wheels. We were using the Pop Art style as inspiration for the object or image that students chose. Students worked on mixing all colors using the 3 primary colors- red, yellow and blue. |
