We had a guest artist come on Wednesday to show students how to create pottery using the wheel. Gene Polson has worked as a ceramic artist for over 40 years. He teaches classes in Marcus and LeMars, Iowa now and also makes his own pottery to sell. He owns a company called Pilot Creek Pottery. It was great to see him create plates, vases, bowls and cylinders on the wheel. Students in the 3D art class got to make something on the wheel with his help. We will continue to make more things on the wheel in the 3D art class.

The 3D art class finished creating their masks. Students added extra 3D elements, paint and other decorations to make their mask creative & unique. In High School Art Foundations, students looked at 4 artists who use text and words in their artwork. They drew and added color to one of their names in a creative way. We focused on making the initial creatively using a shape. One student has been working on using charcoal and chalk to draw different things. Here are her most recent artworks with flowers and fruit as the subject matter. Another student drew some objects with contour lines. Her theme for the drawing is baby items.
In HS Art Foundations, students have been using a variety of lines to create their artwork. We looked at photograms and how they are made with light and special paper. Students created their own photogram drawing by tracing different objects. They then filled the negative space with a variety of lines. Here are their creative works! One student in the High School is taking an independent study class. She is mostly focused on drawing using different art media. Here is some of her first scratch art drawing work.
High school students have been working on their own creative masks. We used plaster strips on the face to create a mask that can be worn or hung. It was a lot of fun and a new experience for all the students. |
