Drawing I students finished up the semester with a drawing of an interesting traditional architecture structure. Students researched images and styles of architecture from many different cultures. They chose one that they wanted to make into a mixed media drawing. Do you recognize these architecture structures?

The final project for Painting I students was to choose a meaningful place around the area to paint. Students each took photos of different places in the area. We ran out of time at the end of the year, so here are some of the finished paintings and paintings in progress. To finish off the semester, each of the Art Foundations students created a unique book to showcase their learning from the semester. Students chose their own theme and then created pages based on 6 different lessons from the semester. The book is an accordion fold book and has a unique cover related to the book theme. Here are some images from the finished books! Students in HS Painting class have been working on a canvas painting using bright colors, repetition and pattern. We were inspired by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. He believed that painting was a religious experience and was very much inspired by the outdoors and nature. Besides painting, he designed and decorated many architectural structures. Students found images of inspiring places around the world to use as the inspiration for their painting. They also learned how to build a wood frame and stretch a canvas. HS students learned about the photographer Jerry Uelsmann. He creates interesting photo collages using negatives in the dark room. Each student took their own photos and then combined 3 of them together to make a surrealist collage. They also could add one other image that they found as an added surrealist element. Drawing students were able to experiment with many different value techniques using pencil and pen. They learned hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, blending and other various value techniques. Students chose their own subject matter and value techniques for the final drawing.
HS art foundations students created an interesting artwork inspired by Rene Magritte and the Surrealism movement. Students chose a theme word and meaning to express in a strange or unusual way. Students chose beauty, choices and friends to express in surprising ways. Can you tell which pictures express those meanings? Students in HS painting were challenged to create a portrait showing the traditional clothing from a chosen culture. Many students chose a culture that is related to their own identity and heritage. Students learned how to draw faces and work with proportion to make it look realistic. Can you guess which culture is shown in each portrait painting? |
