In 2nd grade art, we read a book called When Sophie's Feelings are Really, Really Hurt. We talked about how she was trying to show how she felt about her favorite tree by the way she chose colors to paint it. She painted the tree with bright colors to show how it made her happy. Students drew and colored their own 'emotion' tree by creating different colored branches to represent different emotions. Students earned a special art day so we made special Chinese paper lanterns as a reward. We used texture plates to color it and then attached all the pieces together. It was a bit tricky to get everything together, but students worked on patience in waiting for help!
