The 5th graders have been working with the principles of design to create art. We have worked with balance, contrast and variety. In this paper cut artwork, the goals were to cut a variety of shapes, cut some complex and simple shapes and to cut and glue neatly. Enjoy!

4th graders are creating designs inspired by Islamic art. They made them symmetrical by folding the paper into 4 parts. Here are some of the works in progress!
3rd graders are learning how nature affects us. We have painted a landscape with a foreground, middle ground and background. Students added details to show an Iowa landscape. We looked at paintings by Grant Wood for inspiration.
In 2nd grade art we have been looking at art by Pablo Picasso. We have been inspired by his 'not normal' faces. He would move parts to new places and surprise us with the strange faces. Here are some of the faces in paper and now in clay. It's so fun to work with clay!
1st graders created a really fun artwork by making many different lines. We used glitter, yarn, paint, markers and crayons. It was so fun to see all the different lines.
In Kindergarten art, we are learning to cut out many different shapes and put them together to make an artwork. We looked at paper art by Henri Matisse.
Kindergarten artists are working with paper to change it in fun and creative ways. We worked together to make a fun paper playground the first week. The past 2 art classes, students cut out and glued a head shape to a piece of black paper. We talked about parts of the face to draw on the head. Students drew and colored in the eyes, nose and mouth for their own face. This week, we added crazy hair to the head!!! It was so fun to see how these great little artists changed the paper to make their crazy bed head. 1st graders are learning how shapes, lines and patterns are all around us and help us make art. We started with our hands by tracing them and overlapping them to create many shapes. Students colored in shapes and left some space white so we can make our paper see-through using baby oil. It's always fun to rub baby oil all over the paper and see how it changes!
Second graders are learning about artists who were very influential and changed the way we think about and see the world of art! We started by learning about Pablo Picasso and his crazy faces. He did something very different with his art by moving parts to new places and making it look 'not normal.' We will be making a face with construction paper and clay! Here are the fun head shapes students have created so far!
The third graders are looking at nature and drawing inspiration from it. We created a nature book and were able to go outside last Friday to draw all kinds of things we see in nature. In class today, we looked at paintings by Iowan artist Grant Wood and are creating our own landscape painting on a paper plate. We started by drawing the 3 parts of the land: foreground, middle ground and background. Students painted the sky blue and will paint the clouds and land next week. |
