The new class of 8th grade art students has chosen a fun variety of words for their 1 point perspective drawings. Students learned how to create a horizon line with one vanishing point and create shapes with edges that recede to the vanishing point. We were reminded that the 3D part of the shape is created using parallel lines, so our math knowledge is coming in handy!

8th graders were inspired by the artist Wayne Thiebaud to create their cupcake mugs. Wayne Thiebaud is an American artist known for his paintings of desserts, people and landscapes. He is best known for his dessert paintings. Students were inspired by his use of ordinary things in his artwork, specifically cupcakes! We enjoyed a day drawing and eating some cupcakes before creating our own mug inspired by cupcakes and ordinary things. Here are the creative works the students made and glazed! They are excited to drink from their creations! 8th graders have learned about the art style Surrealism. Characteristics of surrealism are: strange, bizarre, unusual, and dream-like. Students juxtaposed different magazine images to make their collage unreal. It was fun to see how you could use normal things in a strange and new way. |
