In art foundations, we finished the semester with 2 projects. One focused on rhythm and movement. She decided to draw dancers in 3 different poses. We worked a lot with proportion to make the body look realistic. The final project was inspired by the art of Rene Magritte. He works with surprise and makes you question his paintings. For this unit, we looked at some big themes in our lives and the meaning of them to us and the world. This student chose to represent how the world views beauty. We discussed how our meaning of beauty can and often is different than what the media is telling us is beautiful. For her final artwork, she chose the theme of change. She wanted to represent how she has changed in the experience of living in Iowa for this year as a foreign exchange student. She is heading home, but she is different and has grown and changed.
