Kindergartners finished their beautiful butterfly today! We read Eric Carle's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar as inspiration for this spring-time project. At the end, the caterpillar becomes a beautiful, colorful butterfly. For this project, we learned how to make a slab, coil and spheres of clay. Students pounded their clay into a texture plate and then traced the shape of a butterfly. Then students rolled a coil for the body. They also rolled up 2 balls of clay as spheres for the eyes. Today we colored the butterflies using crayons and tempera paint cakes (like watercolor paint).
