In 5th grade art class, we started looking at a Malaysian artist named Cheeming Boey. He draws really intricate designs on white cups using sharpies. We started some practice making creative lines and patterns using sharpies. After doing some practice with sharpies and lines and patterns, students looked at the artist, Guiseppe Arcimboldo. He was an artist from the 1500's who created amazing and strange portraits using fruit, vegetables, animals and other ordinary objects. We combined something from each of these artists to make our own extraordinary animal drawings. Each student chose an animal to draw and fill with sharpie designs.
