Kinder Art: Look at the slideshow below about artist Laurel Burch. Create your own abstract animal head using fun colors, shapes and designs. You can print one of the templates here or draw your own animal head outline on paper and cut it out.
1st Art: Follow along with this video to create you own Hand Dot Painting inspired by Australian art. Use Q-tips to make all the beautiful colored dots. If you don't have paint, you could make dots with markers instead.
2nd Art: Create your own musical instrument this week! Here are a few different materials you could use: a Pringles can, plastic bowls, metal can, plastic jar, CDs, spoons... The project we have done at school was with 2 plastic bowls taped together. A wooden dowel is used as the handle. You can add anything like rice, beans, little rocks or seeds on the inside. Try something new by making your own instrument out of anything you find at home! Here is a website with 19 different homemade instruments you could try.
Many people around the world use only natural materials (things found outside) to make their instruments. We have a drum and maracas from Haiti that are made out of all natural materials. Here are some other instruments from Haiti.
You could try to make a Rainstick using a Pringles can.
3rd Art: We will be learning about different cultures and how they express their culture in art. The 1st culture and art is from Mexico.
Look at some of these Mexican symbols and draw your own sketch combining 2-3 of the Mexican symbols. Use brightly colored markers to color in your drawing!
Here is another fun thing to try with a traditional Mexican skull that is often seen as a symbol of the Day of the Dead.
4th Art: We have been working with landscapes. One style of painting is called Pointillism or Impressionism. You can clearly see the brush strokes or dots in this type of painting. Create your own pointillism landscape art. You can use a paint brush or a Q-tip. If you don't have paint, you can use colored markers to make dots.
Here are some examples of student landscapes.
5th Art: Keep getting better at making a portrait drawing. Find a magazine image of the front view of someone's face. If you don't have a magazine, you can print a picture of a favorite celebrity, athlete or musician. Cut the face in half and glue half to a paper. Then work on drawing the other half by looking at the side. The face has symmetrical balance, so everything should match up almost perfectly with the other side.
