Jean Dubuffet was a French painter and sculptor who was born in 1901 and died in 1985. He studied art early in life then changed and ran a winery for many years. He came back to art at the age of 41. He was inspired by the art of children and insane people. His art was considered Brut art or 'low art'.

Jean Dubuffet's 2D artwork and 3D artwork are similar in that both use repeating shapes and lines. There is lots of repetition in the apartment drawing as well as in his sculptures. He also draws people very childlike. His 3D sculptures also have a childlike look to them. They are mostly made with simple shapes and color.
