Kinder Art: This unit is going to focus on how we as artists can see and show the world in unique ways. We will be drawing different things to look real and to look imaginary. For this week, look at birds, animals, or fish and draw them how you see them. You can draw your pets, find a realistic picture of an animal in a book, or explore the zoos to find animals to draw.

1st Art: We are going to learn about how different cultures express themselves with art. Watch this video showing a traditional Australian dance.
These people used body paint, dancing, music, and acting to express their life and stories. The Australian people originally created art on cave walls, on their bodies with body paint, in the sand, and then with DOTS! You will be creating some mini dot paintings using some Australian symbols.
You can use any smaller piece of paper or the blank side of a notecard. Draw a few (one bigger and a few smaller) Australian symbols from above. Then, you can go over the symbols with a marker, crayon, or paint. After that, grab a Q-tip and dip into paint to make the DOTS!
2nd Art: Music inspires us to be creative! For this music related artwork, look at this slideshow on Stuart Davis. Then, create your own colored paper collage (or painting) by cutting shapes and arranging them on your paper.
3rd Art: Create any type of picture on paper using masking tape. Then do the bubble art in a cup or blown watercolor paint to fill the paper with color. When it's dry, take off the tape and you will see your picture!
(You can be inspired by animals, fish, nature, or make something with shapes.) The last image uses tape and splatter paint. Have fun!

4th Art: Draw your own landscape with a foreground, middle ground, and background. You can look at this slideshow again to remember what a landscape is and where the 3 parts are in a drawing. Use watercolor paint or other colors to color your landscape. I also added a farm landscape drawing paper at the end to help you if you decide to draw a farm.
5th Art: Learn how to draw a face (portrait) with this video. To make a face look real, you need to pay attention to proportion and placement of the facial features. Have fun creating a practice portrait with the video, then try another one on your own! Drawing faces should be a lot easier after learning these tips! Mrs. Bruinsma was a past teacher at H-LP and now teaches at the Spirit Lake Elementary. I was excited to see that she also was doing portraits with students and made this great video!
