7th graders have done a great job working with clay and paint to create portraits and clay jars focusing on pop art. We looked at Roy Lichtenstein as inspiration for the portraits. 7th graders looked at Ancient Egyptian Canopic Jars and how each protected an important part of the dead person's body. On the top of each jar was an animal head. We used this as an inspiration to make our own pop art jars. Students chose something from popular culture to made as the 3D sculpture on the top of the jar. Enjoy this great work!

7th graders have been learning about pop art and how we are influenced by popular culture. We looked at how artists who create pop art borrow ideas from popular culture and everyday things. We looked specifically at Roy Lichtenstein and his comic style portraits. Students are creating their own portrait painting using his style. He uses bold lines, primary colors (with black & white) and usually has a thought/speech bubble.
