8th graders were inspired by Wayne Thiebaud's artwork and idea of using ordinary things in his paintings. We looked at Wayne Thiebaud's dessert paintings as inspiration. Students designed their own cupcake mug with some ordinary object in the frosting or on the handle. Can you tell what ordinary things inspired these 8th graders?

The 8th graders have been working on 2 different projects. They created their clay mugs and now have been painting a mandala. We learned that mandalas are connected with spirituality and meditation. We watched a video showing how monks make mandalas using colored sand. Students worked in groups to create a design using colored sand on the table. Students then created their own mandala design using numbers or letters. We traced and repeated the design around a cardboard circle and now students are finishing the painting part. |
