Students also designed a room or landscape in the surrealist style. They learned how to make a print using foam and printed their surrealist room or landscape.
8th graders learned how art can be strange, mysterious and come from our dreams or unconscious mind. Students played some fun surrealism games to start off the unit. We learned about some artists and the style through the first part of this video. Students combined magazine images to make a surrealist collage. They focused on juxtaposition: placing objects together that normally wouldn't be together. Students also designed a room or landscape in the surrealist style. They learned how to make a print using foam and printed their surrealist room or landscape.

6th graders learned many new things about Ancient China and Emperor Qin. This young man became the leader at 13 years old! He was able to rule and conquer many different lands. Emperor Qin created many lasting legacies in China. He unified the country with the same language, same currency, standard measures and created an enormous terracotta army that would enter the after life with him. Students did some research on where, when and why the terracotta army was created and found. They also each chose a terracotta warrior to build with clay. It was a long and challenging process at times, but each student was able to create a unique warrior. 8th graders investigated many different ways of coming up with ideas to design a creative bowl. We drew ideas from nature, food, music, opposites and ordinary objects. Students chose their best idea to make into a clay bowl. They chose the best technique for building the bowl: pinch, coil, or slab methods. |
