8th graders have been working with the style of art: surrealism. Students learned how surrealism often places images together that don't normally go together (juxtaposition). Surrealism also focuses on the unconscious mind and dreams. Enjoy these strange people collages! Here is a video telling more about the style of surrealism!

8th graders learned how to draw buildings using 2 point perspective. Each student chose their own theme and inspiration for the city. We worked on drawing the buildings realistically with windows and doors as well. 8th graders are learning how linear perspective helps make drawings look more realistic. We learned how to create both 1 and 2 point perspective to draw 3D forms. Students started using 1 point perspective to create 3D lett 8th graders designed and built a unique clay mug. We learned how to use slabs to build. Students also used other clay building techniques to make the 3D lid. We looked at the artist Wayne Thiebaud for inspiration. 8th graders worked with 2 point perspective in a creative way to make buildings with their own theme and inspiration. 8th graders are learning how to use linear perspective to make things more realistic and 3D. Students started learning about 1 point perspective, which has a horizon line and one vanishing point. Students chose a word and designed the word and space around it to relate to their chosen word. There are a lot of great artworks for our 1st project! 7th graders learned about the style of art called POP ART. Students saw how the art showed things from popular or consumer culture. We also looked at Egyptian canopic jars, which were used to store organs during the mummification process. Each student built their own jar and then added their own item from popular or consumer culture that is popular to them now. Enjoy! The 6th graders looked at artwork by Clarence Carter for inspiration. Students made their portrait peeking over a wall with an inspiring, positive message that they wanted to share. Which messages inspire you? 6th graders learned about quilt history and how it connects to our past and traditions. Students learned about barn quilts and were able to design and paint their own mini barn quilt on wood. Some skills we learned were using rulers to make geometric shapes, making a grid and enlarging a design on a larger surface. Students also learned how to use tape to help them create a neater and more exact painting. 7th graders have been working to make their own creative tessellation. We looked at the art of M.C. Escher for inspiration. Students learned how to make a translation, rotation and translation/rotation tessellation. Here are all of the finished tessellations! |
