5th grade students are thinking about how we as artists can create art that represents who we are. We started by creating a clay symbol that represents how we feel about this 5th grade year. Then we looked at some famous artists and their self-portraits. Students noticed that this is how people did 'selfies' in the old days. These self-portraits represent who the artist is and their style of art. Students got to practice drawing a portrait and learned how to draw with the correct proportions. Now we are working with clay to make a fun face mug that represents who we are. Students just started making a pinch pot and adding a coil to make it taller.
