This week in art, we focused on 2 different artists. We started off looking at Jasper Johns and his paintings inspired by everyday things. We also looked at artwork made by Louise Nevelson. She creates large box installations from objects or materials she finds. She makes her work by combining many ordinary or everyday things. After putting all the different pieces together, she unifies the work with one color of paint. 5th graders will use found materials from the art room to create their own art inspired by Jasper Johns and Louise Nevelson. We started with concentric circles similar to Jasper Johns' painting of the target. Then we will glue different found objects on old CDs. Later, we will use paint and foil to show the style of each of the artists.
