5th graders have been creating an artwork inspired by Jasper Johns and Louise Nevelson. They drew and painted concentric circles. After that, each student arranged small pieces of wood, buttons and other objects on a CD. They are creating a low relief similar to what Louise Nevelson does with her relief sculptures using everyday, found objects. When they are finished, they will attach the CD relief at the center of the concentric circles. We discussed 2 principles of design for this project: emphasis and repetition.
